Cala Alcaufar Holidays

On Menorca's south easterly point, this little known white-washed harbour village has a mysterious azure water cove and entirely relaxed way of life.

A little way off the beaten visitor track, this picture perfect white-washed village is one of Menorca's best kept secrets.

Huddled next to a long, tapered creek of turquoise water, its interweave of white-washed houses is irrefutably pleasurable to the soul and the eye. Here, the small streets produce an genuine Spanish feel and an almost 'rough and ready' allure that is quite difficult to come across in the more developed resorts. Roam about to get familiar - it will not take you long - and you will find a few modest, traditional shops, and an unhurried example of life that is extremely infectious.

When you want to visit the beach, you will not have to travel far. Cradled in the corner of the slender bay, an striking, little curve of pebbles and sand waits for your attention. Collapse on a sun-bed, float in the fresh seas, lounge on the polished rocks under the shaded pine trees and allow the entire day to just slip away wholly undisturbed.

As soon as the time has built up your thirst and appetite, simply stroll to the welcoming restaurant bar overlooking the bay, sitting over scrumptious tapas an ice cold drink and beneath a clear blue sky. And as dusk approaches, Alcaufar's daytime tranquility transforms with ease into passive evenings centered around the hotels, and in high season, a single disco and bar.

It would be a huge let down not to explorer more of Menorca's attractions and beaches during your visit. For a better, characteristically stunning beach scene, leisurely walk to close by Punta Prima to sprawl on its dramatic brush of white sands. Or take a bus or hire car to distinctive Mahon, just up the coastline, where you can shop all day in its gift stores and open-air markets.
